July 26, 2017

Join us for highlights of the Society for the Improvement of Diagnosis in Medicine’s (SIDM) 8th International Diagnostic Error in Medicine Conference recently held in Washington DC. The focus of this year’s conference was the just-published Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report Improving Diagnosis in Health Care.

The conference brought together doctors, trainees, nurses and other allied health professionals with patients and policy-makers to discuss the implications of the report and map out strategies to improve the accuracy and timeliness of medical diagnosis.

Here are highlights and summaries of Day 1 of 3 of the conference.

Interesting links relevant to Day 1 topics or presenters/moderators:

Pat Croskerry, MD on diagnostic thinking and error.

Mark Garber, MD on reducing diagnostic error in medicine.

Geoff Norman, PhD, McMaster University on the cognitive psychology of how doctors think.

Tejal Ghandi, MD of the National Patient Safety Foundation, Day 1 Keynote Speaker: The Changing Landscape of Diagnostic Safety.
